Breast Lift

A breast lift, or mastopexy, is a cosmetic surgery that rejuvenates and reshapes sagging breasts, addressing issues related to pregnancy, aging, or weight changes. The procedure involves removing excess skin and reshaping breast tissue to create a firmer and more lifted appearance.

Breast Lift Explained

A breast lift, or mastopexy, is a cosmetic surgical procedure designed to address sagging or drooping breasts. This condition may result from factors such as pregnancy, breastfeeding, weight fluctuations, or aging, leading to a loss of skin elasticity. During a breast lift, excess skin is removed, and the remaining breast tissue is reshaped to elevate and firm the breasts. The nipple and areola are repositioned to achieve a more youthful and aesthetically pleasing contour.

While a breast lift primarily focuses on improving breast position and shape, it does not significantly alter breast size. It is often performed as a standalone procedure or in conjunction with breast augmentation for those seeking both lift and increased volume.

Benefits of a Breast Lift

Experience renewed confidence and a revitalized silhouette with the transformative benefits of a breast lift, or mastopexy:
  • Improved Breast Contour: A breast lift enhances the shape and contour of the breasts, providing a more youthful and lifted appearance.
  • Correction of Sagging: Address sagging or drooping breasts caused by factors such as pregnancy, breastfeeding, or aging, restoring a firmer and more aesthetically pleasing position.
  • Nipple and Areola Repositioning: The procedure includes repositioning the nipples and areolas to align with the newly shaped breasts, contributing to a natural and balanced look.
  • Boost in Self-Confidence: Achieve a renewed sense of self-confidence and body positivity as you enjoy the improved aesthetics and symmetry of your breasts.
  • Clothing Fit Enhancement: Clothes may fit more comfortably and complement your figure better after a breast lift, as the procedure enhances the overall balance and proportion of the bust.

Breast Lift FAQs

Ideal candidates for a breast lift are individuals experiencing sagging or drooping breasts due to factors such as pregnancy, breastfeeding, weight fluctuations, or aging. A consultation with our experienced surgeons will help determine your suitability based on your specific concerns and goals.

While a breast lift primarily addresses sagging and reshapes the breasts for a more lifted appearance, it doesn't significantly change their size. If you desire both lift and increased volume, your surgeon may discuss the option of combining a breast lift with augmentation for optimal results.

Downtime varies among individuals, but generally, patients can expect some initial soreness and swelling. Most resume normal activities within a week, with a gradual return to more strenuous exercises after a few weeks. Following post-operative care instructions is crucial for a smoother recovery.

While some scarring is inevitable, our skilled surgeons employ techniques to minimize visible scars. Incisions are carefully placed, and scars typically fade over time. The long-term aesthetic benefits often outweigh the discreet scarring.

The results of a breast lift are long-lasting, provided you maintain a stable weight and follow a healthy lifestyle. While the natural aging process continues, the rejuvenated appearance achieved through the procedure typically endures, contributing to sustained satisfaction.

Everything You Should Know about Breast Lift

Let's discuss the best options for you.

What to Expect at Your Breast Lift Appointment

At your breast lift appointment, expect a thorough and personalized experience centered around your unique needs. During the initial consultation, your surgeon will engage in a detailed discussion to understand your goals, medical history, and expectations.

A breast lift is performed in the operating room with the patient asleep. The incisions used vary based on the patient’s breast measurements, size, and degree of ptosis (droopiness). Typically, a vertical “lollipop” incision is made around the areola and then down towards the breast fold. However, occasionally this incision needs to be extended within the breast fold creating an “anchor” or “Inverted-T” incision. Through this incision, the breast is reshaped and the nipple is lifted to a more youthful position.

A breast lift does not typically change the size of your breasts, but instead redistributes the volume to create a more shapely and full look. However, in patients interested in enhancing their breast size and upper pole fullness, an augmentation with an implant can be performed during the same surgery. Conversely, in patients interested in reducing their breast size, some breast tissue can be removed during the breast lift procedure.
Following the breast lift, your surgeon will schedule follow-up appointments to monitor your progress, address any concerns, and ensure optimal healing. Throughout the entire process, the focus is on your well-being and achieving the desired outcome for a more lifted and rejuvenated breast appearance.

How to Prepare for a Breast Lift

Preparing for your breast lift appointment involves several crucial steps to ensure a smooth and successful experience. Start by diligently following any pre-operative instructions provided by your surgeon, which may include guidelines on medications, lifestyle adjustments, and dietary considerations.

During the initial consultation, share your complete medical history, including any allergies, current medications, or pre-existing conditions. This information is vital for your surgeon to tailor the procedure to your specific needs and ensure your safety.

Plan for transportation on the day of the procedure, as you'll likely be advised not to drive after undergoing anesthesia. Arrange for post-operative care and support, as you may need assistance during the initial days of recovery.

Follow any fasting instructions provided by your surgeon, typically starting the night before the procedure. Lastly, ensure you have a comfortable recovery space at home, stocked with necessary items like loose and comfortable clothing, prescribed medications, and a designated area for rest.

By meticulously adhering to these preparations, you contribute to a positive and well-prepared breast lift experience, enhancing the likelihood of a successful outcome and smoother recovery.

Planning for Your Breast Lift Recovery

After undergoing a breast lift, it's crucial to prioritize a thoughtful and comfortable recovery process. Expect some initial soreness and swelling, and plan for a designated space at home where you can rest and recuperate.

After breast lift, patients return home the same day. Waterproof dressings will be applied to your incisions so that you can shower the next day after surgery. Aside from strenuous activity or heavy lifting, patients typically resume their normal activities shortly after surgery. Some medications to control your pain will be given for the first week after surgery. You will be placed in a soft, supportive surgical bra for up to 6 weeks after surgery. Some swelling and bruising can occur but typically resolves within a couple weeks. Scar prevention therapy is usually began 2 weeks after surgery once your incision is completely closed.

By carefully planning for these aspects, you contribute to a smoother and more comfortable recovery from your breast lift procedure.
